Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has kick-started one of the biggest Railway opportunities for ITI, Diploma and technical stream candidates by approving 6,565 vacancies for Technician posts for the 2026-27 recruitment cycle. This intake will cover Technician Grade 1 Signal and multiple Technician Grade 3 categories across different Railway zones, giving aspirants a wide range of trade-wise and zone-wise options.

Eligibility Criteria (Expected Pattern)

The Railway Board letter mainly approves vacancies and process; detailed eligibility (age, qualification, category-wise relaxation) will be given in the RRB Technician CEN 2026. Based on previous Technician recruitments, candidates can expect:

• Nationality: Indian citizen (other conditions as per CEN).

• Age Limit: Likely a minimum of 18 years with upper age limit and relaxations as per government norms (exact range to be confirmed in CEN).

• Educational Qualification:

  • Matric/SSLC with ITI in relevant trade, or

  • 10+2 with relevant subjects, or

  • Diploma in concerned engineering disciplines,
    depending on the specific Technician category (exact post-wise qualification will be defined in the notification).

• Medical Standards: Category-wise medical fitness requirements; Nodal RRB will group posts with identical medical standards.

• PwBD & Reservation:

  • Clubbing of categories will consider PwBD attributes and reservation norms.

  • SC/ST/OBC/EWS reservations (including backlog and current) will be ensured by Railways while placing indent.

Selection Process (As per Board Process & Past Pattern)

The Railway Board has authorised a CEN where Nodal RRB will club similar categories and then conduct the recruitment process. The detailed selection stages will be laid down in CEN, but candidates can expect:

1. Computer Based Test(s) (CBT)

   • Single or two-stage CBT depending on post and CEN scheme.

   • Questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness, and relevant technical subjects.

2. Document Verification

   • Verification of educational/technical certificates, caste/category certificates, PwBD certificate (if applicable), etc.

3. Medical Examination

   • Post-specific medical standards as notified in CEN; only medically fit candidates will be empanelled.

4. Final Allotment

   • Nodal RRB will prepare panel.

   • Concerned Railways/PUs will finally allot department and category to empanelled candidates based on vacancy position and community-wise distribution.

How Vacancies Will Be Notified

The Board letter clearly explains the recruitment workflow for 2026 Technician posts.

• Zonal Railways and Production Units will place final indents (not exceeding approved vacancies) through the Online Indent & Recruitment Management System (OIRMS) in consultation with RRB Bengaluru within a week from the issue of the letter.

• While placing indents, zones must strictly follow reservation norms and correctly account for backlog and current shortfall of SC/ST/OBC/EWS.

• Nodal RRB will:

  • Identify categories with identical medical standards, PwBD attributes and qualifications.

  • Club such categories and issue a single CEN mentioning which categories are clubbed so candidates are aware.

• The CEN 2026 for Technicians will be the main document carrying detailed eligibility, exam pattern, syllabus, and application dates.
